Donations are crucial to the success of our mission

Donations are crucial to the success of our mission: Building public gardens that beautify, educate, and enhance livability in our community.  The Durango Botanic Gardens is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.  All of our workers and staff are volunteers and our gardens are built and maintained largely with donations. Make a general donation or target your donation to a number of options (listed below). Tax regulations related to charitable deductions have changed, some of them favorable to nonprofit donations.

General Donation

General donations are welcome.  Select this option if you wish to give us the flexibility to apply where most needed.  Thanks!

Love Books, Reading?  Consider Donating to the Literary Garden

The Literary Garden envisions a marriage of gardens and literature and honors our partnership with the Durango Public Library.

The Literary Garden is being designed and built around themes found in many of our favorite books, poems, and other works of literature that have been inspired by nature and gardens. Library staff has offered input on authors who have made gardens and nature central to their writing. This information is guiding us in plant and tree selection, art, and other features of the garden. The new garden also will incorporate innovative ideas in water conservation and retention.

The Garden will be comprised of six planting beds, each devoted to a different literary genre or tradition, including Indigenous Peoples, Youth, the Southwest, Latinx, Contemporary, and the Classics.

We hope this garden encourages reading and expands our knowledge of different literary traditions and, in so doing, enhances our respect for cultural diversity.  VISIT THE LITERARY GARDEN HOME PAGE

Art in the Gardens

Outdoor art has had a place in our gardens from their inception and now we are expanding our art presence in the garden with new pieces. In 2021 a stunning, 75’ long mural, featuring plants common to our region and varying microclimates will adorn the parking lot retaining wall between the library and the Riverside Professional Building. The mural is being produced by Nia Sturr, a professional muralist. The mural is funded by donations and a grant from the Creative Economy Commission.

We are also adorning our gardens with intricately designed laser-cut metal panels. Several panels have been produced so far but there’s room for more. Not sure what design you would like? Call us at 970-880-4841 for more information and to be put in contact with an artist for ideas that will make the panel special for you.

Help us make the Durango Botanic Gardens one of the premier locations for art in Durango as well as having the satisfaction of supporting local artists and the creative arts industry.
